For over 20 years, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus’ Housing and Community Development Committee has convened municipal leaders to work together in developing policies and programs that will assist municipalities in addressing local housing challenges. In 2002, the Caucus approved general principles regarding the type of housing communities should be working to develop and attract through its Housing Endorsement Criteria. In 2018, the Housing and Community Development Committee adopted an Action Agenda to guide its focus and advance policies and programs that align with the Action Agenda. Since 2023, the Housing and Community Development Committee has utilized an annual survey of the committee to guide its focus and priorities.
The Housing and Community Development Committee is the only body in the Chicago region that convenes to develop a shared municipal voice on housing issues. Our membership consists of regional mayors seeking to provide leadership, build interjurisdictional capacity, and advance new policies around housing and community development issues. Mayors may elect to send staff as their designated representative.
