Sustainability Planning for Local Governments, Using the Greenest Region Compact (GRC): 7/20 Workshop
Presentation:
- Sustainability Planning for Local Governments – Edith Makra, Director of Environmental Initiatives, Metropolitan Mayors Caucus
Resources:
- Greenest Region Compact (GRC) sustainability pledge with 49 high-level goals, which 166 communities have adopted by resolution
- Greenest Region Compact Framework Document, which can be used for sustainability assessments and planning
- Some of the sustainability plans created with the GRC:
- City of Countryside – Please note that the City filled out the GRC Framework (pages 11-33 of the plan), which makes up a majority of the plan and shows what actions are achieved, in progress, or planned. Sustainability planning can really be this easy with the GRC!
- City of Rolling Meadows
- Village of Arlington Heights – We referenced this new sustainability plan on a slide during the meeting.
- To see more plans that have been created by using the GRC, go to our GRC webpage in the section “GRC Framework: A Foundation for Sustainability.”
- The GRC update that we mentioned during this meeting will be completed soon, and we will release the beta version that we previewed at this workshop.
The Caucus held one other event during Chicago Climate Week, an Environment Committee meeting on July 21 that included updates on the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory. View the July 21 meeting materials here.
