Working Towards a More Equitable Region

The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Diversity Issues Task Force is seeking feedback and input on its strategic priorities for 2022. Strategic priorities are topics of regional and cross-jurisdictional relevance that will guide Caucus initiatives to support collaborative progress towards a more equitable region.

Elected officials, appointed commissioners, and municipal staff members from the Chicago metropolitan region are invited to complete the following survey by March 25th, 2022: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DITF2022Survey. The survey contains 23 questions and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

The Diversity Issues Task Force

The MMC Diversity Issues Task Force convenes elected officials and municipal staff from across the Chicago region to discuss shared local challenges and best practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion as they pertain to municipal government. Quarterly Task Force meetings cover relevant state and national policy updates and feature guest presentations from subject-matter experts and local municipalities.

In 2021, the Task Force established a monthly DEI Working Group to dive deeper into specific topics of interest related to operationalizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in municipal policies and practices. The monthly working group provides space for dialogue and peer-sharing among local leaders and identifies topics to be shared at the quarterly Task Force meetings.

About the Survey

The DITF 2022 Survey requests feedback and input on six potential focus areas related to equity in the region:

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices in Municipal Government
  • Equitable Economic and Community Development
  • Immigrant Integration
  • Language & Language Access
  • Health Equity and Lessons Learned from COVID-19
  • Environmental Justice

These topics were identified from conversations with local leaders across the region and a review of past strategic planning documents going back to 2010. Topics identified from past discussions were updated to reflect the region’s current and evolving social, economic, and demographic characteristics.
