More details about host site locations and potential remote work conditions are included in the application.

About the GRCorps Program

Across the Chicago Region, communities are voluntarily taking steps to become more sustainable and help make their communities attractive places to live and work. These steps are outlined in the Greenest Region Compact (GRC), a partnership between the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and the 131+ communities who are working every day as stewards of the environment, community and local economic vitality.

The Greenest Region Corps is a partnership between the Caucus and AmeriCorps to find enthusiastic volunteers to lead sustainability projects in a select group of our GRC communities. The second cohort of GRCorps members is currently underway serving nine communities, two counties, and one solid waste agency. Read about the GRCorps here.

GRCorps volunteers work directly for a GRC community on a project that will result in greater environmental awareness and stewardship. Volunteers will be recruited and administered by the Caucus. A total of 12 positions are expected to begin in the fall of 2020. In addition, volunteers will receive training and mentoring from staff at the U.S. EPA Region 5 Office in Chicago and other regional partners. The program is anticipated to start October 5, 2020, and volunteers must complete 1,720 service hours by September 3, 2021. Volunteers will be paid a living allowance of $18,000 and will be provided health insurance. Upon completion of the program, volunteers will be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Educational Award of approximately $6,195 directly from AmeriCorps.
