Funding supports municipalities to serve people at risk of or experiencing homelessness and new arrivals

September 20, 2024 –The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), is administering a second year of funding for the 2025 state fiscal year. Just over $9.5 million has been awarded to eligible municipalities statewide outside of Chicago and community- based organizations that applied with support of local municipalities where services will be provided. Grant funding will provide support services to individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness and/or new arrivals (asylum seekers).

These services include the following:

  • Shelter & Transitional Housing Support
  • Food
  • Wraparound Services
  • Legal Assistance
  • Health & Wellness

The SMASS grant program is part of an ongoing joint planning effort by Illinois, Chicago, and Cook County.
