With an impending public transit fiscal cliff ahead of us, there have been numerous proposals introduced that would try and provide various funding and governance changes to the existing public transit system.   The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus fully supports efforts to provide sustainable funding to the vital public transit system in our region. However, we do not believe that a systematic change to the governance structure or consolidating existing boards will provide any savings or best practices that will provide system improvements.

Caucus Position:  The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus urges the General Assembly to provide comprehensive funding to a system that is in desperate need and also listen to the numerous local government leaders who have expressed concerns with the proposed changes to the governance structure of the various transportation boards.
