In collaboration with the Roosevelt Institute, the Mayors Caucus is conducting a study of shared services between municipalities and other local units of government in Northeastern Illinois.
The information collected will be used to identify best practices and contribute towards discussions in which we have been invited to participate in with Governor Rauner’s staff and his Local Government and Unfunded Mandates Task Force. Results will be publicly shared to aid in any future shared service efforts. We would greatly appreciate you or your designee taking our brief, 10-15 minute online survey, by June 30.
In addition to municipalities, we also welcome input from other local units of government.
Regardless of the level of your past participation in these efforts, we would still like to hear from you. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Kim, Roosevelt Summer Fellow, Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, 312-386-8788, jkim@mayorscaucus.org. Thank you for your assistance.
Project Background
The Mayors Caucus commissioned a 2013 case study on municipal shared services, with a corresponding 2015 update. We found a number of promising results that encouraged this follow-up study on region-wide shared service projects in order to analyze benefits, obstacles, cost savings and best practices.
In collaboration with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), we now are seeking to expand on the data that has already been collected to create a fully comprehensive database, a summarized directory, and a costs-benefits analysis.
