The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and AARP invite Chicago-area municipalities to attend the MMC Age-Friendly Communities Collaborative (AFCC) meeting on Thursday, March 3rd  from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM CT.  This virtual meeting will cover Free Resources and Technical Assistance For Age-friendly Communities.

You may be observing an aging population in your town and, if so, your community is not alone. Our entire region’s demographics are shifting. People are living longer, and this will significantly affect everything from the cost and effectiveness of municipal services to local concerns over housing, transportation, and public spaces. Many municipalities have begun to plan for this shift by designating themselves as age-friendly communities and/or dementia-friendly communities.

That’s why the Collaborative is pleased to share free resources to help you address this through the national AARP Age-Friendly Communities Designation and the local MMC Aging in a Changing Region program.

The meeting will feature AARP’s Bill Armbruster, who directs the Age-friendly Communities Network of more than 624 local governments striving to become friendly to residents of all ages. He will share free tools, resources such as their Community Challenge grant, and emerging local issues to help Chicago area local leaders prepare for this shift.

The meeting will also cover the first year of progress from the AFCC’s Aging in a Changing Region Program, which helps the region’s municipalities implement aging-in-community efforts through tailored workshops and targeted technical assistance.

The AFCC is chaired by President Catherine Adduci of River Forest. Mayors may attend or send a representative on their behalf. At prior meetings, representatives have included mayors, trustees, commissioners, and municipal staff. Please ask attendees to RSVP to Kyle Smith, Director of Housing + Community Development at ksmith@mayorscaucus.org to receive the virtual meeting information.
