Cities operate both drinking water supply and waste water services. Though the region is endowed with abundant fresh water supply from Lake Michigan, and other groundwater sources, water conservation and protection of water resources are important regional priorities.

The Caucus champions the use of green infrastructure to manage storm water effectively, at lower costs, while providing landscape assets to communities.

Municipalities operate essential water utilities to supply residents with clean, safe drinking water. Failing water supply infrastructure is responsible for an estimated loss of 70 million gallons of Lake Michigan water daily. The Caucus collaborates with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and the Metropolitan Planning Council on the State and Regional Water Supply Policy Coordination Group to modernize water supply systems and coordinate policies and programs.
