Municipal governments manage residential waste hauling and recycling services. Residential curbside recycling is practiced in nearly all of the region’s municipalities. The City of Chicago began offering curbside recycling in 2013 to all residential building of 4 units or less.

Public Act 97-0287 – Electronic Products Recycling & Reuse Act took effect in 2012 banning electronic devices from landfills. The Caucus worked to foster collaboration between recycling service providers and municipalities and civic groups to provide market-based solutions to electronic waste disposal. The Municipal E-Waste Recycling Consortium helped municipalities offer electronic waste recycling services in 22 municipalities and counties.
